The world’s most influential religious institutions, faith networks, advocacy organizations and humanitarian bodies—ranked by their ability to shape belief, public policy, education, diplomacy, charitable activity, media narratives and communities worldwide.

This should not be ranked by followers alone. The methodology should consider:

The State of Israel itself should remain in the Countries Index, not be treated as a religious organization. However, Israel’s connection to Jewish identity, religious institutions and diaspora networks means organizations such as the Chief Rabbinate, Jewish Agency, World Zionist Organization, World Jewish Congress, Chabad and major pro-Israel advocacy networks can rank prominently here. The same principle applies to state-connected Islamic and Christian institutions.

The Holy See / Roman Catholic Church belongs at or near #1 because it combines spiritual authority, sovereign diplomatic status, extensive property and financial resources, international political access, and one of the world’s largest networks of schools, universities, hospitals and charities.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation ranks highly because it connects 57 member states around shared political, diplomatic and religious concerns, although it is an intergovernmental bloc rather than a single theological authority.

The World Council of Churches represents 356 churches across more than 120 countries and says its membership encompasses over 580 million Christians. The World Jewish Congress represents Jewish communities and organizations in approximately 100 countries and advocates before governments, parliaments and international institutions. The Assemblies of God reports more than 88 million adherents worldwide, demonstrating why rapidly growing Pentecostal networks deserve meaningful weight beyond their traditional political visibility. 

Israel and Jewish Influence

Israel’s global influence should not be credited to one Jewish organization or to Judaism as a monolithic bloc. Its influence comes from a combination of:
